Learning about Colour

Learning about Colour Over the last few weeks we have been learning about the Colour wheel and the primary and secondary colours.  We did a fun experiment called 'Walking Water' in which we tested and observed what happened when the primary colours mix together. After this we checked our thinking with another test by mixing playdough (in primary colours) to make the secondary colours.  We completed our learning about these colours by each creating a 'Colour bug' showing two primary colours on the wings and the secondary colour that they make on the body of the bug.

Marshmallow Shapes

Geometry Shapes Challenge We have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. Last week I gave the children the challenge of making 2D and 3D shapes with toothpicks for sides and mini marshmallows for corners. They had lots of fun counting how many sticks and marshmallows they would need to make their shapes. The extra tricky challenge was making a 3D shape that would stand up on its own.

Young Ocean Explorers

Steve Hathaway from Young Ocean Explorers In Week 1 of Term 2, we had Steve Hathaway from Young Ocean Explorers come to visit us at school. He talked to us all about the sealife around NZ and the problem he has encountered with plastic rubbish in the sea.  He challenged us to help him in cleaning our local sea environment by picking up plastic rubbish. If we pick up plastic rubbish in our local community - then it doesn't get into the drains - which lead to the sea.  There are lots of other things to learn, videos to watch, and quiz to do on the Young Ocean Explorers website.  Go to  https://www.youngoceanexplorers.com/
