Pout Pout Fish


Last week we read and listened to the story of 'The Pout Pout Fish'.  The children loved the story and enjoyed retelling the story in their writing, talking about what makes them 'pout', and learning about emotions.

 Once there was a Pout Pout Fish and he said I'm a Pout Pout fish with a pout pout face and I spread the Dreary Wearies all over the place. Then he kissed the kiss kiss fish.

 Once there was a pout pout fish and this is what he said, I'm a Pout Pout fish with a pout pout face so I spread the dreary wearies all over the place. Blub! Bluuuuub! Bluuuuuuuub! Along came a clam with a pearl. Hey Mr Fish don't you think it's time to turn your frown upside down? Nice thought Mr Clam but I'd keep it the way I am. After he met a jellyfish, a squid and an octopus. Soon a purple fish comes and kisses the pout pout fish on the lips. Now this is what he said, I'm a kiss kiss fish.

 Once there was a Pout Pout fish with a pout pout face. Oh! Are you sad? Yes, because I have no friends. I want some friends. Would you like to play with me? Yes he said. Thank you. I like a friend. I'm so happy now. I like a new friend. This is my favourite friend. I play with him all day. I love my friend.

 Once there was a Pout Pout fish and it was sad. He went to some of his sea creature friends in the sea and he did his song. I am a Pout Pout fish and I am also a kiss fish. Smooch and Smooch!

Matariki Whanau Morning

Matariki Whanau Morning Over the last few weeks we have been learning about Matariki and preparing for a special morning with our families. We read and wrote stories about Matariki, did art, set goals, and made kites. Last Friday the day we had been waiting for finally arrived! We were very excited. We started our morning by showing our folk dancing to our guests in the gym. They were very impressed with our dancing and we had a lot of fun inviting them to join us for the last dance. There were a lot of smiles!  Then we took our guests back to our classrooms and showed them our learning.  We each wrote a wish for Matariki on a ribbon and attached it as a tail to our kites.  We had offered our guests old fashioned lemonade to drink and star-shaped biscuits that we had decorated for the occasion.  It was a very special morning. Welcome to Room 7 in 2019 We have had a great first few weeks in Room 7. It's been lovely to meet all the children and their families. We have been focused on getting to know each other and setting up our classroom routines. We have done some learning about how to stay safe in the sun, Waitangi Day, and Chinese New Year. We found out about the traditions involved with Chinese New Year, worked out our zodiac animals, and made dragons. This week we are learning about the Year of the Pig and will be creating lanterns within our team.

STEM Challenge

3 Little Pigs STEM Challenge In Week 11 of Term 1 we completed our learning about Growth Mindset and Teamwork with a STEM Challenge based on the story of The 3 Little Pigs.  In small groups the children had the challenge of building a house for the 3 little pigs that would be strong enough to withstand the Big Bad Wolf test. The children had cardboard, tape, paper, popsicle sticks, and straws to build their houses. After initially brainstorming their ideas for houses individually, they then worked in small teams to design their house and build it. The children were very excited about testing their houses - and were told that the Big Bad Wolf would be visiting later in the week to test them.  It was with great excitement and anticipation that the children prepared their houses for the Big Bad Wolf's visit.
