ZooVentures


 On Thursday 17th October Room 7 went to Rm 15 to learn about small creatures. First Sally introduced herself. Next we talked about what all animals need. Then Sally put magnets of things that animals need on the board and we made a real mouse house using the ideas on the whiteboard. Then we put real mice in it. After that we gently stroked a Bearded Dragon. Then Sally got out a Blue Tongued Lizard. Also we saw guinea pigs, tortoise, chinchillas, and fire-bellied newts. Finally we saw a dog doing tricks.

Yesterday we have been to Room 15 for ZooVentures and Sally visited us. First thing we did was questions for pets. Then we looked after the mice. After, we did the blue tongued lizard and he ate the mealworms. Then we did the guinea pigs challenge - the noisiest eater will get the trophy. Then we did the tortoise feeling. then we did the chinchillas challenge and the chinchillas are in a volcanic dust bath. Last thing we did is the dogs. The names are Mrs Ashford, Snoopy, Poppy, Midnight (Mice), Mr Schofield, Luno, Bubblegum, Captain Marmite, Princess Snowpants, Bernard, Tortellina, Gerald and Peaches. My favourite animal/pet is Tortellina.

Yesterday Sally came to Marina View School. We got to see heaps of animals. First we made a mice house and then we got to see guinea pigs and got to brush them. We got to see the Bearded Dragons and then we got to see the tortoise. Then we saw the blue tongued lizard and then we saw the cute and cuddly chinchillas in the dust bath. then we got to see the dog do tricks. I liked everything.

Yesterday Room 7 went to Room 15 where the Zooventures is. First we talked about what our pets need then we made a mice house. Then we saw the Bearded Dragons, Mr Schofield and Luno. Next we saw the guinea pigs, Captain Marmite, Princess Snowpants, and Bernard. After that we saw the Blue tongued lizard Bubblegum. Then we saw the Fire-bellied newts. Then we saw the chinchillas. Then we saw the tortoise Tortellini and Gerald. At last but not least we saw the dog do tricks. My favourite is the Bearded dragons.

Welcome to Room 7 in 2019 We have had a great first few weeks in Room 7. It's been lovely to meet all the children and their families. We have been focused on getting to know each other and setting up our classroom routines. We have done some learning about how to stay safe in the sun, Waitangi Day, and Chinese New Year. We found out about the traditions involved with Chinese New Year, worked out our zodiac animals, and made dragons. This week we are learning about the Year of the Pig and will be creating lanterns within our team.

Corban Estate Arts Centre

Corban Estate Arts Centre Today Room 7 & 8 went together to the Corbans Estate Arts Centre to take part in a workshop with artist Penny Howard.  We had a great time learning about her art and the stories she tells through her art. The children then spent time planning and completing their own art.  The children were thoroughly engaged in the process and the few hours we were there sped past. And then of course there was the bus ride which was another highlight for us.  We will put our finished art on display in the classroom soon!

Matariki Whanau Morning

Matariki Whanau Morning Over the last few weeks we have been learning about Matariki and preparing for a special morning with our families. We read and wrote stories about Matariki, did art, set goals, and made kites. Last Friday the day we had been waiting for finally arrived! We were very excited. We started our morning by showing our folk dancing to our guests in the gym. They were very impressed with our dancing and we had a lot of fun inviting them to join us for the last dance. There were a lot of smiles!  Then we took our guests back to our classrooms and showed them our learning.  We each wrote a wish for Matariki on a ribbon and attached it as a tail to our kites.  We had offered our guests old fashioned lemonade to drink and star-shaped biscuits that we had decorated for the occasion.  It was a very special morning.
